About South Gate, MD

Located in Anne Arundel County, South Gate was a community located to the south of Baltimore. In 2010, the area that was once known as South Gate was added to Glen Burnie, another Baltimore suburb. When the population of South Gate was last calculated during the 2000 census, it was home to 28,672 people and 11,273 households. 35% of households had children under the age of 18.

Now the area is a part of Glen Burnie, which has a population of approximately 67,000. The city’s name comes from a man named Elias Glenn, a district attorney that owned a property known as Glennsburne. It was later referred to as Glen Burnie, and that nickname gave the city its distinctive name.

There are several notable people that grew up in this part of Maryland, including singer Toni Braxton and talk show host Montel Williams. Other well-known residents include Washington Redskins player Kevin Barnes and professional wrestler James Ellsworth.

You’ll find a range of appealing attractions in this area, such as the North Arundel Aquatic Center and the Thomas A. Dixon, Jr. Aircraft Observation. Both of these attractions are likely to be a big hit with children. There’s even a playground that provides views of planes nearby!

Adults may appreciate the hiking trails in the area. The Baltimore and Annapolis trail is a popular option for cyclists, and the BWI trail is a great place for hiking. If you want to enjoy indoor attractions, you can stop by the Benson Hammond House, which is a historical museum.

Even though South Gate is no longer a town of its own anymore, you can still visit the area. Glen Burnie is a thriving city that has a lot to offer residents. It’s likely that the area will continue to see growth in the future.
